My latest series is an intensive investigation into the many ramifications of the American meat industry, covered such subjects as genetic engineering, intensive farming, conditions in slaughterhouses and meat packing plants, labor issues, and environmental side effects. Compared to Europe, the United States has been rather slow in addressing the legal implications of these topics. From animal rights matters to the evolving legislation on genetic patenting, this work explores a number of issues that are bound to move closer to the center of the American political agenda in the next years. –Sue Coe artist statement, printed in the Fifteenth Annual Art & the Law exhibition catalogue, 1990
